One time years ago (back in Maryland) I was introducing a guest speaker when all of a sudden a guy sitting in the second row let out an audible “blah, blah, blah”. Needless to say an awkward moment. When I talked to this guy later (he was a good man and a faithful church member – actually he was a Care Group leader) he said that as he was listening he was thinking that he had heard all this before and for a moment his mind went blank and the next thing he knew he was blurting out “blah, blah, blah”.
I remembered that story as the task fell to me to explain why Crossway is starting a blog. After all, haven’t blogs proliferated? Hasn’t it all been said before? Do we really need another blog? Is your mind already going blank? Have you involuntarily blurted out “blog, blog, blog”?
If that’s what you’re thinking I understand. But let me explain how this blog will, hopefully, fill a void in your blog world. Think of a small town newspaper. While we can catch the national and world news on TV, get editorial comment from countless talking heads and keep up with our friends with email, texts and phone calls there is still a void of “local news and opinions”. Our hope is that this blog will serve to uniquely communicate what is going on here at Crossway – if you will – our home town news and editorial page.
We won’t be posting every day but check us out regularly. We will be posting announcements, testimonies, short articles or series on topics on the pastor’s hearts, book reviews, interesting clips and links, in other words, anything we think will inform, encourage, and build us together as a local church. So here we go…hope you benefit and enjoy.
